C-BE10 Pump Control Unit
Description and operation
The unit is designed to monitor bilge water levels via a remote sensor unit and trigger the vessels bilge pump when these levels reach the sensor. The pump will run for a pre-set time as set by the user via the rotary switch on the panel. In order to help preserve battery levels and reduce the likely hood of false triggers due to splosh, the unit pulses the sensor every 20 seconds. This set up is in "Auto" Mode. There is a Test mode on the unit that can be used to test the sensor. In this mode the sensor is "On" and will trigger the pump instantly if immersed in liquid, the pump will only run for approximately 2 seconds. The pump can be turned on manually via the panel by switching to the "Run" position. In this position the pump will run continuously. While the pump is running (or the unit triggered) the "Run" lamp is illuminated. If the "Tripped" lamp illuminates in any mode, check that the pump is still connected and its fuse is still intact.
Installation
The control unit must be mounted away from sources of excessive heat and moisture. The sensor is usually mounted close to the pump (or ti-wrapped to it). The sensor should always be mounted horizontally, check Sensor Installation instructions for details. Connect the unit up as per the circuit diagram. Note that it is the pump Negative wire that is connected to the unit. A suitable fuse of the correct rating for the pump must be fitted in the Positive line to the pump and must not exceed 16A. Avoid long cable runs wherever possible. On larger vessels where long cable runs would be needed or where larger pumps are required, the unit can be used to switch a heavy duty relay close to the pump which in turn can switch on the pump. If a float switch is to be used instead of a sensor, simply connect one wire to where the sensor green wire would be and the other to 0V (negative battery terminal).
